Introduction
Solo
and ensemble work have different characteristics. Solo work allows the
dancer to tell his/her own story. Ensemble work demands the dancers to
compromise their own personal take on the dance piece to tell the story
of the group.

Main Lesson
It
is important for students of DAN 190 to see dance and appreciate the
creative aspect of Improvisational dance. The videos below show the work of
college age students who use their bodies to express their stories. More
than the technical aspect of dance, what is underlined in these videos
is the expressive aspect improvisation brought to dance art.

A Not to Remember
As the names suggest, solo practice is done independently by yourself, and ensemble practice is done with a group. Students or dancers who work with an ensemble should spend time practicing independently each week to ensure that they are prepared for the ensemble.
